Spook your family and neighbors with creepy outdoor Halloween decorations! Here's some ideas to get you started:

Scarecrows
It's not too difficult to stuff old clothes and place your man in front of the house. One year I saw a twist on this idea - on beggers night when all the children were out Tricker Treating, the "dummy" was replaced by the man of the house who hid in the leaves and sprang to life when a child approached the house. Very cute and very fun!

Pumpkins
Of course, you can't have decorations outside without having a carved pumpkin! One of the oldest outdoor Halloween decorations which can't be overlooked. See our section on Pumpkin carving patterns and ideas for details on different designs.

Window Decor
There's several options you have here, and probably many windows to fill as well. You could do something simple as candles in every window giving the house a spooky glow, or have something more flashy. Let your imagination go wild with this one!

Not just for Christmas anymore! Now available in pumpkins, skulls, skeletons, and other spooky designs. Many stores carry this item around Halloween, and most can be used for both indoor and outdoor Halloween decorations.

Traditionally, luminaries are made from small paper bags with votive candles set inside. The inside will need to be weighted down with sand. I would say about 2 inches of sand. You then line walkways, driveways, mantels and even staircases. These bags can be found for about $5.00 at your local hardware store.

They are absolutely gorgeous, yet simple and affordable. They can be used for any occasion, wedding or holiday, especially Halloween and Christmas.
If your tradition is to include your children on your holiday decorating, you may have them easily decorate the paper bags with drawings, holiday hole punches, or cut designs. You may use traditional brown bags, or bags in holiday colors. You can find them at party supply stores. As well, you may be able to find preprinted themed bags. Place one to two inches of sand in the bottom of each paper bag. Nestle a tea light or votive candle into the center of the sand. If you are little bit leery about using wax candles, you may also use the electric votives. You can find these online at www.thearomashoppe.net/weddingaccents.htm

- Electric Votives
These luminaries are also a beautiful touch to an outdoor wedding. You will want to make sure you use white paper sacks and design it in the same manner as mentioned above. I would even suggest placing beautiful glitter or shiny wedding decals on the outside.

When setting your luminaries out, make sure you have enough bags and sand to even line your walkway or driveway. I would also suggest placing the luminaries anywhere from 6 inches to 2 feet apart at equal intervals. With luminaries growing in popularity, you may even find plastic or ceramic containers for a lasting luminary fixture.
