Handmade Christmas Tree Decorations

Christmas can be a fun time for everyone, and an even more fun time creating the decorations to be put up around your house or on your Christmas tree. Idea Queen has put together several different handmade Christmas tree decorations from us and from our craft collection.

Handmade Christmas Decorations by Idea Queen

The two handmade Christmas tree decorations below are by Idea Queen. One is a traditional decoration, while the other is slightly unique. If you have your own handmade Christmas tree decoration ideas, please be sure to submit them!

Popcorn Garland

One of my favorite handmade Christmas tree decorations from childhood! We use to sit and thread popcorn as a family before hanging it up on the tree. This craft doesn't get much easier, and you only need two items.

Supplies:
- Needle & Thread
- Cooked Popcorn (no butter or salt)

Make sure you tell your children ahead of time this is not to eat! If doing this with children, your "helpers" may not be able to do much but eat the popcorn. That's alright though, it's part of the fun!

If you've never made Popcorn strings before, simple take your threaded needle, and string the popcorn up. Very easy, but slightly time consuming depending on how long you want your string to be. Make sure you only use stove popped or air popped popcorn without butter and salt. Not only is it less messy, but the kids will be less tempted to eat all the popcorn if it's not buttered!

Snowflakes

Another favorite of mine, and also a great craft for kids. You can hang them up around the house, or on the tree.
What you'll need:

- Blue White construction paper, or felt
- Glue
- Gold or Silver Glitter
- String or yarn
- Paper clips

Cut out a circle on your paper or felt, large enough to be the entire snowflake. Fold your circle in half, then in half again. Cut designs into you snowflake, in triangle patterns all around the edge. You can cut into your folds, but make sure the entire piece stays together. Unfold and you should have a perfectly cut snowflake!

Decorate with glitter, to make it shine like real snow. Use string and paperclips to hang up your snow flakes, or use as ornaments on your tree.

Handmade Ornaments
This is a tradition for us. Every year just before Christmas, we sit down and make our own ornaments to hang on the tree. Sometimes we even give a few decorations away as gifts. Because it's something very special we do, there is an entire page set up on Idea Queen that gives the details and instructions on these particular handmade Christmas decorations.

See "Christmas Ornaments" for details.
