How to Organize RecipesIf you are like me, you gather recipes from every source possible. I have an entire drawer full of recipes, cookbooks on shelves, and even recipes scattered on my computer. It's time for a change. This page is going to feature how to organize recipes in different ways.
Make Your PlanThe first step we need to take is to find a system that works for us. Recipe cards are the norm, and make it easy to store. Most prefer to use recipe cards and albums (or boxes). Others would prefer not to copy all those recipes onto cards. Some use binders or folders that are flexible enough to use both cards and other size sheets.
No matter what you decide, you should first stop at Organize.com . You can get some pretty good ideas on how to organize based on what's available at this store.
Recipe Albums and CardsThere are two main ways on how to organize recipes and cards - binders or boxes. Both have the same idea, which is to store our precious recipe cards. If you want to go the extra step, you can also pick up clear protectors for the cards as well. I do recommend this for older recipe cards which have been passed down by family and friends. You don't want these to get lost forever!
The size and strength of the binder or box you use is going to depend on your budge and needs. If you search Organize.com, you'll find quite a bit of options for recipe albums and cards. You'll need to choose a system for how to organize recipes based on your own needs and how much space you have in your home.
You can also take a peek at what Amazon.com has to offer for recipe organizers. There's quite a few to choose from, but be sure to read the reviews on each first.
Using Recipe CardsIf you decide the best way to organize is to copy all your recipes to cards, you are going to need some cards! You can either buy these, or print them. The plus side to copying all your recipes to cards is you can organize them much easier. Not only will they all be the same size, but most recipe organizing products are made to fit cards as well.
There are several different sizes of "standard" recipe card sizes, so do keep this in mind when you are purchasing boxes or binders. If you plan to copy all your recipes to a certain size card, you'll want to make sure it's going to work with your binder or box!
