Break out the red food coloring and frosting - it's time to decorate treats for Valentine's day! The great thing about Valentine's day (or any holiday for that matter), is the ability to get creative with sweets. No matter if you are just making them for yourself or to give away as gifts, decorating Valentine cookies and treats can be a lot of fun!
On this page we'll give you a few ideas for creating your own Valentine's Day cookies and treats, as well as some general decorating ideas. Be sure to submit your own ideas below!
Valentine's Day Cookies
Cookies are a big part of Valentine's Day, so we'll start with those. You'll of course need a heart shaped cookie cutter, possibly in different sizes if you want to get really creative. Any sugar cookie recipe will do, so just use your favorite. One creative idea is to split your cookie dough in half, mixing red food coloring into one to make pink dough. You can cut different shapes in each of the dough, setting one color on top of the other to make pink and white cookies. Press gently though, you want to keep your shapes in tact.
For decorating your valentine cookies, you can use regular frosting or use the red food coloring again to make pink frosting. Cinnamon candy, candy hearts, and sprinkles can be used for additional decorations. Lately I've been picking up those containers of multiple types of sprinkles with the current seasonal theme to decorate with. You've got every type of sprinkle all in one container, and they are big enough to last at least two years.
Other Valentine's Day Treats
Now since Valentine's day is all about the chocolate, you can make chocolate treats as well. My favorite form of chocolate is a truffle, which are easier to make than you think. Here's a super easy recipe for my favorite truffles:Cookies & Cream Truffles
1 cup crushed up Oreos
1 8oz package cream cheese
Melted chocolate (we used semi-sweet chocolate chips)
Mix the oreos and cream cheese together in a bowl. Spoon truffle sized balls onto a pan. Freeze. Melt chocolate in a pan, and dip the balls in. Set back on pan to cool. Eat and enjoy!
